What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical technique for treating thread veins or spider veins that commonly appear on the face and legs. It is a well established procedure that has actually been performed since the 1920s. Sclerotherapy is the most successful treatment for thread veins as it is able to completely eliminate them.
How does it work?
A very fine needle is inserted into the vein and an injection of sclerosing agent is administered. This causes the walls of the blood vessel to shrink together, which prevents blood from flowing through them. This causes the thread veins to become less visible. Eventually, after a series of treatments, the vessels will close down completely and the thread veins will disappear.
How many treatments are required?
Normally, a course of 2 – 6 treatments is required to eliminate the thread veins completely, although this can vary depending on the size and number of the veins.
